Khammam constituency is witnessing an interesting tussle between the TRS and Congress as the two bitter enemies Renuka Chowdary and Nama Nageshwar Rao are vying for the seat yet again. Though the Congress and its allies won six out of the seven assembly seats in the December 2018 elections , all the MLAs excluding Mallu Bhattivikramarka defected to the TRS in the later period. The constituency comprises Khammam, Palair, Vyra, Satthupalli, Madhira, Koththagudem and Ashwaraopet Assembly segments as its parts and the ruling party is making serious efforts to reverse the trends which were reflected in the assembly polls. With three senior leaders Thummala Mageshwar Rao, Nama Nageshwar Rao and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy joining hands with each other the TRS is marching in the campaign but the Congress party is not lagging behind its rivals in the electioneering. Renuka Chowdary is known for her election strategies. Previous opponents of assembly elections are coming to the voters seeking votes on behalf of TRS , but it may prove detrimental for the TRS as the voters of this seat are known for their communist leanings. The CPM though fielded Venkat as candidate is unlikely to split the votes as it suffered serious setback in the assembly polls.
