On Thursday, the BJP-Akali Dal candidate from Punjab’s Gurdaspur district Sunny Deol said he had not joined politics with vendetta issues.
Addressing a series of electoral rallies in Batala, he said excessive remarks were being made against him. He said he would not spend his time countering such claims and instead work hard to achieve his objective of winning the seat.
The actor-turned-politician said that his mind was more engaged in thinking about creating employment opportunities and developing the constituency rather than indulging himself in mudslinging.
The BJP-Akali Dal has fielded 62-year-old Deol from Gurdaspur, the seat represented four times by actor Vinod Khanna, who died of cancer in April 2017. Gurdaspur is located in northern Punjab, sharing a border with Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir. The area in Punjab is not as well developed as other areas.
