3 Muslims thrashed by Gau-Rakshaks

According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), Hindu vigilante groups have killed dozens of people in recent years, many of them Muslims, for allegedly slaughtering or transporting cows — an animal that is considered sacred by many Hindus. Also, some 44 people died in cow-related violence by Hindu vigilantes between May 2015 and December last year.

In yet an another case three Muslims including a woman were thrashed by self-proclaimed gau rakshaks over rumours of carrying beef in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh.

A video showing the goons descending on the youths with sticks has gone viral. In the video, the gau rakshaks held the youths to a tree one by one and beat them up mercilessly as the onlookers stood by. In the video of the incident shot by an eyewitness on a mobile phone, a woman was also seen being hit repeatedly with a slipper on her head, covered with a piece of cloth, as she curled up on the gravel and took the blows in silence from the attacker who was heard yelling at her, “Jai Shri Ram”.

The police said five men have been arrested from Seoni city, 350 km from state capital Bhopal.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the incident. “Horrified to see cow vigilantes thrash an innocent Muslim with such impunity in MP. Hope Kamal Nath takes swift action against these goons,” she tweeted.

In a tweet, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, “This is how Muslims are treated by Vigilantes created by Modi voters. Welcome to a New India.”
